This book identifies the relationship between play and areas of the National Curriculum, and demonstrates the way it can facilitate learning in those areas. The book uses the work of teachers to show play and learning in action. In each case it is explained why the teacher chose to develop a particular aspect of play, the role of the child in the activity, what the children did, the circumstances in which the children worked, how well the topic succeeded, the implications of this work for learning and play. Transcripts of children's dialogue are included, as are children's letters and drawings.
