Die hier vorgelegten Bände 40, 41, 42.1 und 42.2 der "Forschungsausgabe" der Werke von Jacob Grimm und Wilhelm Grimm umfassen die sogenannten Grimm-Teile des Deutschen Wörterbuchs, das heißt die Stichwortstrecken, die von Jacob Grimm bzw. Wilhelm Grimm verfaßt wurden. Jacobs Buchstaben A, B und C und Wilhelms Buchstabe D sind in den ersten beiden Bänden des DWB enthalten (hier Bände 40 und 41), Jacobs E und der größte Teil von F füllen den dritten Band (hier Band 42.1). Unser Band 42.2 enthält die Spalten 1 bis 264 von Band 4. Sie stammen vom Stichwort F bis zum ersten Absatz des Stichworts Frucht von Jacob Grimm. Der Rest des Stichworts Frucht ist von Karl Weigand verfaßt.
Dem Nachdruck vorangestellt ist ein Essay des Herausgebers. In ihm werden die Bedeutung des Wörterbuchs, seine Entstehungs- und Publikationsgeschichte, die Geschichte seiner Weiterführung bis 1960/71 sowie die lexikografischen Prinzipien und Besonderheiten dargestellt. In einem Ausblick wir die Neubearbeitung (seit 1965) vorgestellt, abschließend wird auf die jüngste Entwicklung in der Weiterarbeit am DWB eingegangen, nämlich seine Digitalisierung, das heißt die Bereitstellung des Wörterbuchs in computerlesbarer Form, die zu diesem in jeder Hinsicht monu-mentalen Werk ganz neue Zugänge eröffnen wird.

Volumes 40, 41, 42.1 and 42.2 of the "Forschungsausgabe" of the works of Jacob Grimm and Wilhelm Grimm include the so-called Grimm sections of the Deutsches Wörterbuch, i.e. the lemmata edited by Jacob Grimm or Wilhelm Grimm. Jacob's letters A, B and C and Wilhelm's letter D are included in the first two volumes of the DWB (volumes 40 and 41 here), whereas Jacob's E and the greater part of F fill the third volume (volume 42.1 here). Our volume 42.2 contains the columns 1 to 264 of volume 4. From the word F to the first paragraph of the key word Frucht, they are by Jacob Grimm. The rest of the key word Frucht was written by Karl Weigand.
The reprint is preceded by a preface written by the editor. This describes the signifi-cance of the dictionary, the history of its genesis and publication, the story of how it was carried on up to 1960/71 and its lexicographical principles and peculiarities. In an outlook, the revised edition (in preparation since 1965) is presented, and this is followed by the most recent development in continuing work on the DWB: its digi-talisation, i.e. the publication of the dictionary in computer-readable form, which will open up completely new avenues for accessing the work, which is monumental in every respect.
