This illustrated book traces the history of the T-shirt, from humble undergarment to high fashion artefact. The photographs cover the period from the fifties to the present day, illustrating examples of this universal item of clothing following fashion, promoting personalities or products, being political, three-dimensional, torn and sexy, colourful, controversial and plain. John Gordon and Mandy Ollis are design consultants to the book, record and fashion industries. Alice Hillier is a freelance writer on popular culture and has contributed to "Blitz", "The Face", and "The Observer Magazine".
