DAMIEN GILDEA has led seven successful expeditions to the high mountains of Antarctica since 2001. In 1998, he published the Antarctic Mountaineering Chronology (New Zealand Mountain Safety Council). Known for his high- precision GPS data, Damien has also published two topographical maps for Livingston Island (2004) and Vinson Massif & the Sentinel Range (2007), the latter of which includes a number of new features named by the USGS. Damien has also guided an expedition to the South Pole by ski and made various journeys to the Himalaya, KJarakoram, and Andes. When not on expeditions, he lives in Australia.
