Maria Gieysztor de Gorgey came from a prominent Polish-Lithuanian family. She translated Podhale: A Guide to the Polish Highlands by Jan Gutt-Mostowy from the Polish and also wrote bilingual Polish cookbook. Ms. de Gorgey was a travel specialist who resided in New York City.
