Describing the physical features of the mountains and their geological and cultural history, a general chapter on visiting the region is complemented by separate chapters on various holiday interests for the naturalist, photographer, trekker and climber. A final section discusses the protection and future of this unique region at the roof of the world, and describes its natural parks and preserves.
