Library Codes of Ethics Worldwide

The information sector has changed world - wide. These changes refer
to libraries in many countries where libraries are still quite frequently the
only institution for information provision. Mobbing, corruption as well as
racism may infl uence information services and the professionals working in this fi eld. An ethical code of behavior shall fi ght against its infl uences.
Though without legal framework it can target at honest and trustworthy
information provision.
Der Informationssektor hat sich in den letzten Jahrzehnten weltweit ge-
ändert. Diese Änderungen betreffen auch die Bibliotheken in vielen Län-
dern, immer noch oft die einzige Institution der Informationsversorgung.
Mobbing, Korruption und Rassismus können Informationsdienstleistun-
gen und das dort tätige Personal beeinfl ussen. Ein ethischer Code der
Bibliothekare soll dem entgegenwirken. Wenn auch ohne Gesetzeskraft,
kann er entscheidend eine ehrliche und objektive Informationsversorgung
erreichen.
