Although written primarily for use by British businessmen, this book also aims to provide an introduction to the subject of competition policy to students of law, of economics, and of public administration. It includes a review of the treatment by the competition authorities of the United Kingdom and of the European Community of every significant business practice and every type of merger which has fallen within their jurisdiction over the past ten years. This is preceded by brief non-technical surveys of the economic rationale and of the legislative and institutional framework, including a previously unpublished account of the procedures adopted by each of the regulatory authorities. It is followed by an assessment of the impact of policy, and an account of recent and probable future developments.
