Many disabilities affecting children are caused by malfunctions in the brain or nervous system. David Freides introduces students to the study of these malfunctions, assuming no prior knowledge of neuropsychology. In fact, he first examines how the brain and nervous system function normally and then reviews disorders such as motor disorders, visual disorders, some learning disabilities and disorders of the complete brain. While the focus is on understanding how the brain and nervous system can malfunction, the analysis obviously raises issues such as the education and treatment of children affected by these disabilities. Suggestions are incorporated throughout the text which should be of use to students and professionals alike.
