The preface describes the story of how the book came into being, and was developed in addition to information about the artwork methodology. A set of thumbnail illustrations of each of the 50 or so full artworks has been included at the back of the book in the form of an index.

Desmond Freeman studied art and design at the National Art School, Sydney and later attained a Master of Arts degree from the prestigious Royal College of Art, London. While working as a designer in London, Sydney, Singapore, Hong Kong and Dubai he earned a reputation as a leading interior and museum designer never abandoning his passion for painting and drawing. Desmond's career includes academic appointments as Professor of Design and Head of the Design School at the University of Technology, Sydney and President of the Design Institute of Australia. He is currently a member of the Academic Board of the Virtu Design Institute and chairs its Scholarly Activity and Research Committee. Desmond lives with his wife, Christine in Bowral in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia and devotes his time to his artwork and community activities.
