Remarriage

Helen Franks charts the progress of couples from the break-up of marriage to the establishment of another permanent relationship, using interviews with people who have found the path easy and others who have found it difficult. Remarriage, the start of a new life, usually carries with it a history of children, ex-partners, grandparents, relatives and friends who impinge on the new relationship and can, at times, threaten it. The author explores questions about the choice of second partner, communication, expectations of women and men who seek a more "liberated" partner after being divorced from a traditional one, as well as describing some unusual and controversial ways of co-existing with ex-partners.
