Timber Plantations in the Humid Tropics of Africa

Clearing of tropical forests continues at a fast pace. In the past decade certain countries have lost a great part of their forest cover. Increased efforts in reforestation are needed in most tropical countries in order to relieve pressure on these forests and to provide raw materials for present-day use. An overview of current commercial plantations is given in this paper with a view to providing information on successful species selection and reforestation techniques.
