Digital platforms allow for building connections and communities among enterprises, institutions, and individuals, and across a wide range of economic and social activities, facilitated by their technological capacities and computing power. Large-scale data-collection, algorithmic data processing, artificial intelligence and machine learning enable digital platforms to develop, scale and monetize products and applications with broad appeal that result from sophisticated technology with global usage and economic leverage. This study carried out a thorough investigation of essential technologies and components that comprise digital platforms, as well as ecosystem dynamics and regulatory frameworks that are present within the digital platform economy.
