Discover Peter Figg's range of over 200 previously unseen artworks and commissions spanning 60 years of creativity. This is a remarkable resume of an undiscovered artist with unique talent.
Central to his work are the images of mid-Cornwall, where the artist lived for over 40 years, complete with his special views of famous locations such as Lostwithiel, Looe, Launceston, Fowey and the surrounding valleys. These landscapes are rich and evocative of the season and fast-moving skies. Developing his own vision of the landscape, he observed the fast-changing, rural world of the county, between 1980 and 2010, that is altered forever.
Peter achieved his signature compositions in pen, watercolour and print through wonderfully executed sketches. He had a special ability to render 3D perspective-perfect aerial views of people with their farm buildings, stone cottages, villages, towns and countryside. Likewise he developed landscapes into surreal compositions in print.
The author describes how he created these prints in step-by-step descriptions so the reader can clearly understand this inventiveness and how his unique style evolved.
Learn about the artist's early life and his time during National Service; the famous aviatrix he met, Richarda Morrow-Tait, and enjoy his paintings of English and German aircraft flying over signature aerial views. He was talented at drawing all types of machines.
Peter had a splendid sense of humour, revealed during the Surrey 'Car Trials' (in the Cars and Bikes Chapter) and permeating his sketches of people.
Neil Davies, the Cornish landscape painter, provides a wonderful introduction to his fellow artist, celebrating their time together - especially at West Surrey College of Art where they were colleagues.
This is a beautiful book of artworks on a range of subjects from the artists archive, showcasing his accomplished body of work which will bring pleasure to a wide readership.
