Molecular Pathogenic Mechanisms of Spondyloarthropathies

This book describes the role of of growth factors, cytokines and infectious agents in the triggering of this group of disorders. Topics include: The characterization of the molecular structure and function of HLA class I - including B27 - and class II antigens; identification of bacterial and viral components by polymerase chain reaction; in situ hybridization techniques in the synovial fluid and membrane; characterization of the molecular mimicry existent between HLA-B27 and a variety of infectious organisms; development of HLA-B27 transgenic animals expressing inflammatory articular involvement reminiscent of the spondyloarthropathies.
