The Taming of Eagles

In the early months of 1992, a young journalist was despatched with a photographer to explore the rapidly dissolving Soviet Union. Imogen Edwards-Jones and Joth Shakerley recorded their 100-day journey over many thousands of miles and nine time zones. This story vividly illustrates the privations, frustrations and political helplessness of the former Soviet peoples. It is filled with beautifully sketched cameos of scenes from daily life and illustrated by 40 memorable photographs. It is a telling reminder that behind the glory of the new Union lie corruption, racketeering, prostitution, profiteering, but above all, courage.
