Mateja Petkovic's art focuses on telling a story, never imposing his own narrative, but leaving space for the viewer's own interpretation of what the painting brings out in them. His pieces are born from abstract shapes and forms, taking a more concrete and distinct through vibrant colour choices and perfectly placed brushstrokes that easily walk the fine line between realism and abstract. He is re-imagining the figurative art style, conveying emotion and meaning through his unique technique.
Using the human figure, mostly nude, Mateja dives into the genre of erotic art celebrating human connection and emotion through sexuality. His portraits evoke simplicity and ease yet have a soul-piercing effect.

Born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia, Mateja Petkovic studied Fine Art and Design at the University of Applied Arts in Belgrade. Since 2012 he lives in Munich, Germany, working as a Senior Concept Artist on video games by day, and exploring personal interests as a painter by night.
Beginning his artistic journey as a traditional painter using primarily acrylic and oil on canvas to express himself, Mateja has also accrued over 12 years of experience in the digital art world, often bringing his traditional painting style into the digital medium, distinctly blurring the lines between the two worlds.
Past and present masters of the art world such as Velasquez, Lucian Freud, Francis Bacon, Jenny Saville, Adrian Ghenie as well as Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, and Joaquin Sorolla (amongst many others) have deeply influenced his art. Besides the visual aspect of the arts, he was greatly inspired by the emerging art forms of the 80s and 90s pop culture, from fashion to music to movies to comics and video games. Mateja has exhibited his work in Europe and the United States of America. Many of his paintings have found a new home all over the world.
