The BMDP package is a collection of computer programs that aids students, instructors and research professionals the world over in analyzing data. Running on most mainframes, minicomputers and PCs, the BMDP software has capabilities ranging from plots and simple data description to more sophisticated techniques such as repeated measures analysis. Practitioners in diverse fields, from psychology, sociology and economics to biology, medicine and public health, find the BDMP programs of use. The "BDMP Statistical Software Manual" is a reference guide for users. The Version 7.0 edition presents the latest program features and an expanded step-by-step introduction on how to use BMDP. Program chapters employ examples - each demonstrating a typical analysis - from realistic biomedical, environmental, social science and industrial research. Sample outputs are annotated to help users interpret their results.
Volume 1, designed to be accessible to the novice, introduces BDMP and describes the most commonly used programs, such as plots, histograms, frequency tables, nonparametric statistics, analysis of variance, t tests, stepwise regression, nonlinear regression, factor analysis, discriminant analysis and Box-Jenkins time series. Volume 2 covers the more specialized or advanced programs; for example, life tables, survival analysis, cluster analysis, logistic regression, multivariate analysis of variance, spectral analysis and analyses with missing data. Included are two recent programs - maximum likelihood estimation, and polychotomous stepwise logistic regression and one new program - quadratic discriminant analysis. Volume 3 discusses the BMDP Data Manager, a powerful, interactive data manipulation system. The Data Manager program reads and writes BMDP files and raw data files, and it reads fields with multiple record types and hierarchical structures. It supports data manipulation such as merging files side by side, end to end, or by interleaving records.
It also offers packing and unpacking procedures for transposing values between single and multiple records, as well as sorting, transforming and calculating summary statistics.
