A Guide to Cultural Tourism in South Africa

This guide for tourists covers the wide spectrum of cultural matters in South Africa. The first chapter provides general guidelines on cultural practices, including: how to dress in rural areas; how to address men and women; appropriate behaviour at cultural events; and what to expect when visiting a rural Zulu home. The other nine chapters cover each of South Africa's provinces in turn, highlighting diverse events, both in nature and civilization, and places of particular interest. Among these are: Shakaland Cultural Village, a Zulu reed dance and turtle tours in KwaZuluNatal; liberation tours and the Grahamstown Festival in the Eastern Cape; the Owl House in Nieu-Bethesda and the Oudtshoorn Klein Karoo Nasional Kunstefees; and township tours, incorporating shebeens, jazz clubs and the opportunity to stay in a township home.
