The
Kavikamadhenu
is the longest and perhaps the most important commentary on the
Amarakosa
. It was composed by the Buddhist monk-scholar Subhuticandra in the 12th century and includes quotations from about 250 Sanskrit texts. The work is almost entirely preserved in a Tibetan translation by Si tu Pa? chen dating from the 18th century, while so far only nineteen percent of the original Sanskrit text are available in the few manuscripts accessible.
The present publication contains the first critical edition of the Sanskrit text on
Amarakosa
1.4.8cd to 2.2.5ab on the basis of a fragmentary Indian manuscript and the Tibetan translation.
