Over the past few years significant initiatives have been taken by international and national organizations towards tackling issues of European co-operation within the information field. Central to any library automation project are the data, the bibliographic records. Increasingly important are the networking strategies for sharing these records, and for providing access to a growing range of information services. This changing environment is the subject of "Bibliographic Access in Europe", the first international conference on this theme, held at the Centre for Bibliographic Management, University of Bath. Delegates were present from 28 countries, speakers came from Europe and beyond. Papers are gathered under several themes, including discussions on the advantages of Europe-wide co-operation, the latest developments in relevant technology and the quantity and quality of bibliographic information at present in European databases.
