Enzo Degani (1934 - 2000) hat die philologische Forschung in den letzten vierzig Jahren schöpferisch und maßgeblich beeinflusst. Die vorliegende Textsammlung bietet einen umfassenden Überblick über die wissenschaftliche Arbeit des berühmten Gräzisten und präsentiert die wertvollsten Früchte seiner Studien.
Die Schriften Deganis erscheinen unter einem Titel - Filologia e storia -, der auch das Werk Giorgio Pasqualis mit Bedacht in Erinnerung ruft und die Grundlage jeder wissenschaftlichen Studie über das Altertum zusammenfasst.
Die 'kleinen' Schriften sind von Redaktionsmitgliedern der Zeitschrift Eikasmós, die Degani 1990 gründete und bis in das Jahr 2000 leitete, zusammengestellt, thematisch gegliedert und eingeleitet worden. Die Themengebiete sind folgende: Giambo ed elegia, Tragedia e dramma satiresco, Commedia, Parodia e gastronomia, Epigramma, Bizantinistica, Lessicografia, Varia und Storia della filologia classica.
Ergänzt wurden sie durch addenda et corrigenda aus dem Nachlass des Philologen, Indices und einer vollständigen Bibliographie des Verfassers.

Enzo Degani (1934-2000) was a creative and authoritative influence on philological research over the last forty years. This collection of texts offers a comprehensive overview of the famous Greek scholar's work and presents the most valuable fruits of his academic labours. Degani's writings are being published under the title Filologia e storia, a title which is also a deliberate reminder of Giorgio Pasquali's work and an encapsulation of the basis of all academic studies of the ancient world.
The 'shorter' works have been brought together, organized thematically and given an introduction by the editorial board of the journal Eikasmós, which Degani founded in 1990 and continued to edit until 2000. The themes are: Giambo ed elegia, Tragedia e dramma satiresco, Commedia, Parodia e gastronomia, Epigramma, Bizantinistica, Lessicografia, Varia and Storia della filologia classica. They are augmented by addenda et corrigenda from the philologist's papers, indices, and a full bibliography of the author's works.

Sotto un titolo che volutamente richiama l'opera di Giorgio Pasquali - e che sintetizza i fondamenti di ogni studio scientifico concernente l'antichità - Filologia e storia raccoglie in due volumi i frutti più notevoli della pluridecennale attività filologica di Enzo Degani (1934-2000). Oltre 1300 pagine, corredate di addenda et corrigenda d'autore, di indici e di una bibliografia completa dello studioso, propongono la ristampa degli scritti 'minori' dedicati a Giambo ed elegia, Tragedia e dramma satiresco, Commedia, Parodia e gastronomia, Epigramma, Bizantinistica, Lessicografia, cui si aggiungono contributi miscellanei (Varia) e saggi sulla Storia della filologia classica. Precedute da brevi introduzioni curate dai redattori di «Eikasmós» - la rivista che Degani fondò nel 1990 e diresse per un decennio - le singole sezioni mostrano quanto originale e incisiva sia stata l'opera dell'illustre grecista nella filologia degli ultimi quarant'anni, restituendo un quadro esaustivo della sua personalità scientifica.
