First published in 1920, this book contains a series of English verse translations of Danish ballads. As far as possible, the metrical variations of original Danish versions are reproduced and literal accuracy is privileged over poetic effect. Inclusions are divided into the following sections: 'Historical Ballads'; 'Legendary Ballads'; 'Ballads of Magic'; 'Miscellaneous Ballads'. A historical introduction by the translator is also included. This book will be of value to anyone with an interest in Danish literature and the ballad form.
