Cornel Brudascu (b. 1937) is one of the most important representatives of the neo-avant-garde in Romania. In his home country, the painter repeatedly faced political repression and persecution on account of his sexuality. Although his artworks have long had a significant influence on the Romanian art scene, it is only in the last fifteen years that his work has become known to a wider audience. Brudascu began his artistic career in the 1970s with Pop Art, but later focused on various facets of the male nude.
This publication offers a richly illustrated overview of the painter's work. Accompanying essays by important critics and curators trace the remarkable development of his oeuvre and its present-day resonance.
