Based on the book "A Guide to Finding Quality Information on the Internet" by Alison Cooke, this course addresses the problem of how to evaluate information on the Internet in order to identify quality sites. Trainees will take away a system of criteria and guidelines for selecting and evaluating quality information services which they can then apply to their own information work. The course is structured around four modules which can either be delivered as a complete one-day course or as four separate sessions of approximately 90 minutes. The modules cover: issues and problems of information quality; using a range of search facilities to maximize quality information retrieval; assessing the quality of an information source; and evaluating particular types of source.
