This is an account of the sporting achievements of Jimmy Cook, one of the world's finest opening batsmen. The book ranges from the early years of a century-scoring South African schoolboy, through the heady days of the "Mean Machine", the Transvaal team that dominated the domestic scene through the 1980s, to Cook's seasons as Somerset's top run-maker and the historic tour of India in 1991 with the South African team.
