This book, originally published by Abt Books in 1979, is the companion to the final report of the National Day Care Study (NDCS) conducted by Abt Associates for the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare between 1974 and 1978. The study investigated the impact of variations in major day care center characteristics (staff/child ratios, staff qualifications, classroom size, etc.) on the development of children and the cost of center-based day care.
