Using libraries as examples, Implementation of Organizational Innovation discusses the implementation of innovation in organizations of all types. It is the first book that contains a full and systematic description of the factors which lead to successful implementation, and of the implementation process itself. The book is a valuable tool for information service professionals seeking to introduce new innovations; for corporate managers to whom innovation is no longer an option but a necessity; and for students and researchers of innovation. It is also an ideal text for courses on innovation.
Rezensionen / Stimmen
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. All library managers sooner or later will have to implement change; as Clayton has pointed out, it is essential to 'expect the unexpected,' so some familiarity with what may lie ahead must be better than none. The book has an author and a subject index, plus a substantial bibliography. It is a pleasure to see such fine research coming out of Australasia. LIS lecturers will very likely wish to use Clayton's work in management courses and every library supporting a library school must buy a copy of this title. --Philip Calvert in THE AUSTRALIAN LIBRARY JOURNAL The book is well-written, contains useful, relevant diagrams and an excellent bibliography and index. There are far too few well-researched, thought-provoking texts appearing in the library literature and this title should be required reading for all graduate library students, librarians and others involved in change management and especially for many of those library managers who possess no formal management training and on whom much of the viability of the library industry unfortunately rests. --John Thawley in AUSTRALIAN ACADEMIC AND RESEARCH LIBRARIES [This book is] a major contribution to understanding the management of change, written in a style which is engaging and stimulating... As an exercise in methodology, it offers insights into surveys through interview, observation, and the study of documents, together with some practical guidance on coping with the problems attendant on these forms of data gathering. It also considers how the validity of the data acquired from these sources can be determined and its reliability strengthened. This Appendix should be required reading for any student taking a research methods course...Clayton writes with the authority one should expect from someone who has read and researched extensively. --Peter G. Underwood in the JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR INFORMATION SCIENCE, February 1998.
