The history of industrial relations in Ireland has been well documented from the viewpoint of organized labour. However, the historical perspective of employer and management has been less well chronicled. The 50th anniversary of the Federation of Irish Employers provides an appropriate opportunity to redress the balance with a book that surveys the development of organized employers. Commencing with a narrative history of the FIE and continuing with personal portraits and memoirs of all its formative leaders, the book goes on to encompass contributions from politicians, trade union leaders, social commentators and international figures. It provides not only a tribute to the commitment and energy of individuals concerned, but also an overdue and accessibly presented history of a previously neglected aspect of industrial relations in Ireland.
