C. and UNIX Dictionary

The importance of the UNIX system and the C Programming language - their words, ideas, flavor, and style - is difficult to overstate. This dictionary contains over 1000 terms, plus illustrations, derivations, and examples where needed or appropriate. The terms reflect the stability of the UNIX system despite over a decade of development and terms related to the latest in UNIX development are also included. The author has aimed to show all definitions for each word, and to indicate which words are used as several parts of speech. Additional information about words has been included where appropriate: in many places there are hints to help the reader pronounce abbreviations and other difficult terms; and the author often supplies brief histories for words with interesting or useful etymologies. This dictionary should serve as a practical reference for new UNIX users and C programmers, as well as for non-technical people who need to have familiarity with the jargon.
