Science 5-14 is a new course which has been specifically written to match the new "Scottish 5-14 Guidelines in Environmental Studies". The course offers Pupils Books and matching Teachers Books for P7, S1 and S2, providing progression and continuity across the transition between primary and secondary school. The Teacher's Book provides support for effective teaching and learning. This title includes: material to support each double page spread in the Pupil's Book, an indication of which part of 5-14 guidelines are covered, introduction to the topic (which includes a summary of key concepts involved, identification of possible misconceptions, prior knowledge and what comes next), suggestions for further activities and homework which meets the learning needs of pupils, answers to questions in pupils' book, advice on incorporation of IT, support for development of informed attitudes and investigative skills and assessment material which fits in with the National Assessment bank. The Transition Teacher's Book also includes support for primary teachers without specialist knowledge of science.

The teacher's book indicates which part of the guidelines are covered and gives notes on the pupils' pages and answers to the pupil's book questions. Extension material, practical worksheets and homework suggestions are included. The authors have not forgotten about giving advice on information and communcations technology and have included websites which are worth visiting. Schweitzer Klassifikation
The authors are all experienced teachers, with both primary and secondary specialists on the team. Three members of the team (NS, PC, RS) currently work in the Department of Education, University of Strathclyde. One member of the team was involved in revising the 5-14 guidelines (RS).
