Die Tadema Gallery wurde 1978 von Sonya und David Newell-Smith in der berühmten Londoner Camden Passage in Islington gegründet. Beide waren erfolgreiche Fotojournalisten, die sich in das Gebiet der abstrakten Kunst des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts und der dekorativen Künste des neunzehnten und zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts vorwagten. 1982 hatten sie ihre Leidenschaft für von Künstlern entworfenen Schmuck entdeckt und zeigten in der Galerie eine vielseitige Auswahl von Stücken bedeutender Gestalter des Jugendstils der Arts & Crafts Bewegung, des Art déco und des Modernismus.
Mit über 500 einzigartigen Schmuckstücken aus den 1860er bis 1960er-Jahren spiegelt das Buch die vierzigjährige Geschichte der Galerie und das großartige Gespür ihrer inspirierenden Gründer wider.

Based in England, Beatriz Chadour-Sampson is an international jewellery historian, author, and lecturer. She was the curator of the Alice and Louis Koch Collection, today housed in the Swiss National Museum, Zurich, and consultant curator of the William and Judith Bollinger Jewellery Gallery at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Sonya Newell-Smith began her career as a photo-journalist and together with her late husband, David, founded Tadema Gallery London in 1978. Today she continues to run the gallery online and follows her passion for street photography, which she shared over decades with David.
