Introduction to ADA

This hands-on text shows readers how to write complete programs and program units that conform to the ANSI Standard. The concept of the package, central to ADA is introduced early: in the first chapter, readers are shown how to create their own package to simplify I/O. Successive programs are more complex, each containing new features or embodying new concepts such as data abstraction. Its skills-orientated approach and numerous program examples and exercises make it a highly effective learning tool. As instructors for the US Army's ADA Project at Fort Monmouth, the authors have successfully used their methods with hundreds of students. The book's top-down design presents the global features of ADA for programmers experienced in modular languages such as PL/1 and Pascal. A thorough discussion of many of ADA's lower-level features is contained in an appendix. This book should be of interest to degree and diploma students on introductory courses in ADA.
