Invented Identities?

This text analyzes the impetus for migration, and the psychological and sociological barriers to a process of total re-invention of their sexual identity by lesbians and gays. Migration has long been an option, even a necessity, for gays, to avoid the stigma attached to homosexuality in their own communities, or to seek out more people like themselves. Lesbians and gays have often been drawn to big cities, which provide the opportunity to re-invent themselves. The book explores the development of sexual identities and how these conflict with other identities, and considers what it means to "belong" to any given community.
