Tabley House, Cheshire, was the home of John Fleming Leicester. He was one of the most important patrons of British art in the first quarter of the 19th century, assembling an unrivalled collection of pictures, in London and at Tabley House; he owned ten major Turners and important works from virtually every British painter of note. Much of the collection is dispersed, but this history includes detailed catalogue entries of thirty pictures still in TableyHouse.
