In this celebratory volume the editors have endeavoured to present a kaleidoscopic view of the LA Cataloguing and Indexing Group's past 25 years. The authors have the distinction of having been involved in some of the major changes in the international bibliographical world over the last quarter of a century. They are also members of the LA Cataloguing and Indexing Group, and this is their account of what it was like to be part of that process. The articles reflect on the ways in which policies emerge for creating order in the materiographic universe, rather than being a flat rehearsal of codes or a chronology of events. Articles include contributions on CIG itself by: Joel Downing on the formation of the group; Ross Bourne on conferences; Tony McSean on "Catalogue and index"; Stuart James on CIG activities. The larger national and international issues are covered by: Peter Lewis and Alan Jeffreys on the politics of AACR; Ross Trotter on DDC; Ross Bourne on MARC; Dorothy Anderson on IFLA, ISBD etc; Janet Mitchell on cooperative cataloguing; Michael Gorman on the teaching of cataloguing.
