This is a co-publication with the Australian National Gallery. This comprehensive catalogue by Roger Butler illustrates and documents Margaret Preston's life work as a printmaker, from her early etchings, c. 1916, to her last woodblock prints of the late 1950s. During this forty-year period, Preston produced more than four hundred prints, including woodblock prints, screenprints, stencils, and monotypes, which reflect not only the inventiveness and energy of this prolific artist, but also her continual striving to create a national art which was relevant to her time. Roger Butler's extensive research has uncovered a wealth of information on Preston's life. This is the first time that Margaret Preston's printed oeuvre has been catalogued in its entirety.
