A collection of escape stories by Australian prisoners of war. There are stories of prisoners from two world wars, tormented and tortured until they are left with two distinct options - freedom or death. Many were to succeed, but scores of Australian servicemen did not. Here we meet one soldier who fled a German work camp during the Great War, another who escaped from the legendary "escape proof" Colditz Castle, a defiant sapper who kept on trying until he finally succeeded, and an airman who brazenly attempted to fly a German Messerschmitt back to England.
