Maria Brouwer takes the Schumpeterian heritage as her starting point and attempts to show the continuing relevance of Schumpeter's ideas today. In particular she explores the hypotheses advanced in "Theory of Economic Development" and "Business Cycles" and attempts to integrate these diametrically opposed theories. In unravelling the Schumpeterian puzzles, she draws on modern theoretical work in industrial organization, diffusion theory and technological competition to increase our understanding of the origins and effects of innovation.
