Money, Women and Guns

This volume concerns important contributions to the screen world of crime, from the innovative and violent "Bonnie and Clyde" in 1967 (a film responsible for the installation of the current US ratings system) to the highly-publicised "Natural Born Killers" in 1994. As the book traces the shape of the crime/gangster genre, it deals with some of the most memorable crime films of the last three decades. Mould-breaking films such as "The French Connection", "The Godfather" trilogy, "Goodfellas" and "Bugsy" are discussed by film historian Douglas Brode. He also examines the techniques of many of the directors who have won plaudits in this genre; among them are Arthur Penn, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorcese, Francis Ford Coppola, and the Coen brothers. The photographs included highlight the controversial issues of crime, sex and violence in the movies.
