Return to Paradise

Breyten Breytenback is one of South Africa's leading literary figures, but has had a long, controversial, complex and painful relationship with his country. Ever since his release from solitary confinement in some of South Africa's worst prisons, he has been writing about the experiences that changed his life. This text is an exploration of his African and South African identity, a journey of the heart and mind into the maelstrom of Black African politics in the 1990s.
