This text is a study of the function of the mouth and associated structures, providing students with a basis for treatment of of a broad scope of orofacial and dental disorders. Initial chapters detail the physiology of the sensory systems of the mouth. The physiological details of these functions are then expanded in the following chapters, whilst later chapters address mechanisms that are involved in the secretion of saliva, chewing and swallowing. The book concludes with a chapter on language and speech production. All aspects of oral physiology are presented in an organized manner that allows the student to build on the knowledge of the previous chapters.
