Hugo Grotius ranks among the influential thinkers of the early-modern period. The hitherto unpublished treatise «Commentarius in Theses XI» provides one of the most comprehensive insights into the young Grotius' concepts of sovereignty, the just war, and the legitimacy of the Dutch Revolt.
The present edition with a critical introduction provides an annotated Latin text with English translation.
Rezensionen / Stimmen
«The editor has done a very good job in publishing an English translation along with the Latin text. These are preceded by a very detailed, extremely useful 'Critical Introduction', dealing with life and works of Grotius before giving a clear account of the hist. of the MS and its contents...There is no need to recommend this pb. more specially; it is just excellent.» (Kn, Archive for Reformation History)
