Originally written in 1905 and reprinted in 1924, this history provides a narrative of the development of Osteopathy beginning with A T Still's childhood and spanning until World War I. Booth describes the early Osteopaths and their philosophy. He also describes the history of legislation governing Osteopathic practice across the USA including court battles and outcomes. He gives a history of Osteopathic schools and their founders with discussion on why some closed quickly. He shows how public opinion helped spur the profession on while also inciting the established medical profession to hurl unwarranted criticism at Osteopathy. Osteopathic organizations are also discussed along with their publications and the impact those publications had on opinions of the time. Booth goes on to discuss principles of Osteopathy and its relationship to drug therapy and other therapies commonly utilized at the time. Booth also tells about the osteopathic hospitals and what success patients had through case studies involving measles, influenza, pertussis, etc. Finally, Booth discusses the use of Osteopathy during World War I.
