Psychopathology and Function

This text is designed as an overview of the kinds of clients with whom occupational therapists and other health care providers are likely to work. It gives therapists an understanding of the ways in which other mental health professionals view these individuals. While providing this crucial understanding, it also gives occupational therapists the ability to maintain their unique perspective, and to make their vital contribution to effective intervention and an enhanced quality of patient care. The major DSM-IV categories are described with regard to incidence of the disorders, symptomatology, aetiology and prognosis. Functional performance is also examined for each disorder in terms of skills and activities. The book features: appendices covering DSM-IV classification and uniform terminology; a glossary for quick reference; a chapter on psychopharmacotherapy by Philip J. Fischer; and coverage of treatment with psychotropic medications and how they affect therapy treatment planning.
