A true story, experienced first-hand, of the rise and fall of Alice Lakwena, a young rebel priestess, who sprang from nowhere in Northern Uganda's post-war vacuum of 1986-7 to lead a formidable insurgency against the Ugandan Government - a fierce 14-month civil war in which over 10,000 died in large-scale battles. The rebel group Alice led, called the Holy Spirit Movement, possessed all the traits of a primitive, millenarian cult, and on the outside appeared desperate and insane. Looking closer, it had its own weird rationale, mores grafted from Christianity and traditional folklore, its feet in Uganda's bloody, political past. This is not, however, a political documentation, but more a tale stranger than fiction.
