This book is a collection of papers from panelists who presented at the Charleston Library Conference, held in Charleston, South Carolina, in November 2008.
The theme of the 2008 Charleston Conference was "The Best of Times ...The Worst of Times." Presenters covered such subjects as content development, budgeting, management, technology, the use of blogs, collaboration, the impact of space and funding on collections, verification and online access, and out-of-the-box thinking. The unique nature of the Charleston Conference gave librarians, publishers, and library vendors the opportunity to holistically examine these and other points of interest.
As with previous issues, Charleston Conference Proceedings 2008 gives those who were not able to attend the conference-or who did attend but were not able to hear all the speakers-the opportunity to share in the rich diversity of thought and experience presented at the event.
Rezensionen / Stimmen
"This compilation provides those who were unable to attend the conference an overview of new and innovative thinking in the library world." - ARBAonline "Since I missed '8,000 Citations . . . Are You CRAZY?' 'The Role of the Library in a fully Googlized World,' 'How Not to Read a Million Books," and other intriguing-sounding sessions, I am glad to now have written versions in my hands." - American Libraries "The year 2008 was the 28th anniversary of the Charleston Conference, an event for information exchange among librarians, library vendors, and publishers. Papers from the conference are presented here, in sections on budgets, collaboration, content development, formats, management, thinking out of the box, and technical issues. Some specific subjects examined are knowledge management in acquisitions, bibliographic control and the Library of Congress, microfilm as a primary and secondary source, and the role of the library in a fully Googlized world. Other subjects are the merging of the university databases, practical issues of access to databases in acquisitions and research, and an open source solution for managing electronic resources." - Reference & Research Book News
