Preface
The research and development of the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK Revised) has been basically completed after nearly 7 years' preparation and practice. In April of 2007, the Revision Plan of the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), or the Revision Plan for short, was published in Chinese Teaching in the World, indicating the project of revising HSK has been making substantial progress. On April 21 and 22 of 2007, about 6000 test takers from different countries, with high expectations of HSK Revised, volunteered to participate in HSK Elementary, HSK Intermediate and HSK Advanced at 13 test sites throughout China. According to the test schedule released recently, the revised HSK Intermediate will be administered officially for the first time on June 23, 2007. In order to provide a panorama of HSK Revised, to help candidates prepare for the test and to assist teachers in instructing their students, the Center of HSK of Beijing Language and Culture University now officially releases the first set of sample test papers of HSK Revised.
This set of sample test papers includes objective and subjective test papers at elementary, intermediate and advanced levels, and the subjective test papers consist of the speaking test paper and the writing test paper. In total the set includes 9 different test papers at 3 levels, representing the designing concepts stated in the Revision Plan to test the integrative and separate language skills of the test takers, listening, speaking, reading and writing.
This set of sample test papers is designed based on several pilot tests. Basically all the test items have parameters such as discrimination and difficulty etc. Technically speaking, these sample test papers are in strict accordance with the official HSK Revised to be administered. They not only introduce the test format and the types of questions, but also provide valuable reference to the difficulty of the revised edition of HSK. Besides the sample test papers, this book also presents HSK Revision Plan and the detailed description and instruction of the revised edition of the test at each level. The former helps readers better understand the revising principles and the test contents revised, with the test papers having reflected all the principles of the Revision Plan; while the latter assists then in getting familiar with the test format and types of questions. All the valuable information relevant to HSK Revised can be found in these two sections.
One thing needed to be indicated is that China's HSK Revised is a more developed version of China's HSK with major characteristics inherited from the latter. The two are the same in terms of the nature, the target test takers and the criterion of the test. Therefore, HSK Revised is also suitable for the test takers of the current HSK.
This book is the result of the common efforts of all the members of the Project Team of HSK Revised of the Center of HSK of Beijing Language and Culture University. While we are working on the project we have received support from the leaders concerned, experts or scholars home and abroad, teachers teaching Chinese as a foreign language as well as all the other people who are concerned with and supportive to the project...
