Catherine Barrett is founder and CEO of Annapolis Analytics, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in AI governance and data management, cybersecurity risk management, and data privacy and security matters. Ms. Barrett, formerly with the MITRE Corporation as a Principal Cyber Policy consultant, was vice-chair of the Information Security Committee, Science and Technology Law Section of the American Bar Association (ABA) for the 2019-2022 period. Previously, she was vice-chair of the ABA public health and policy interest group for the 2014-2015 period. She is also co-author of What is Telemedicine?, published by the ABA in 2015.
At MITRE, Ms. Barrett provided federal clients in the health, intelligence and defense communities with research, analysis, and counsel regarding federal and state data privacy and security laws as well as federal cybersecurity laws and policies. Prior to joining MITRE, Ms. Barrett worked as a consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton (McLean, VA) and Booz & Company (Sydney, Australia) where she provided consulting services to private and public-sector clients. She is also a former healthcare lobbyist and US Senate staffer.
Ms. Barrett, along with fellow ABA members, served as a panelist at the 2020 and 2021 RSA Conferences where she gave presentations on state laws governing data brokers and the role of contractual due diligence in shoring up supply chain security, respectively.
Ms. Barrett received her JD and MBA from American University Washington College of Law and Kogod School of Business, respectively. In 2022, she completed a Master of Science in Information and Communications Technology with a concentration in Information Systems Security from the University of Denver and holds a Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) certificate. Ms. Barrett graduated cum laude from Regis University with a BA in political science and BS in economics.
Ms. Barrett's professional memberships include the ABA, the International Information System Security Certification Consortium (ISC2), and the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
Ms. Barrett and her husband have one son and reside in Dublin, Ireland.
