On her 21st birthday Monica Baldwin entered one of the oldest and most strictly enclosed contemplative orders of the Roman Catholic Church. 28 years later, after having obtained a special rescript from Rome dispensing her from her vows, she left the convent. It had taken her many years to discover that she had not the true vocation for the religious life. This autobiography is the record of doubly contrasted impressions - not only between those of conventual experience and of the outside world, but also between the life which Miss Baldwin had known and forsaken in 1914 and what she found when she came out of the convent at the height of World War II.
